My name is Sheemu Khan and I am the English as a New Language (ENL) teacher at Public School 349, The Queens School for Leadership and Excellence. Prior to joining P.S. 349, I had taught 2nd and 3rd grade in both public and private schools in New York City. In 2008, I graduated from The City College of New York with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology. In 2010, I received a Master of Science in Childhood Education from the same university. During my years working as a 2nd grade teacher, I had worked with many English Language Learners. I had realized that working as a teacher in New York City, I would be working with many students who are learning English as a new language. Therefore, to help these students even more and to broaden my knowledge on how to, I attended St. John’s University for Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages. This is my third year as an ENL teacher at P.S. 349 and each year I hope to positively influence all my students to love learning. I am very excited and looking forward to working with all students and community members.
