Mrs. Tanya Bates-Howell
Tanya Bates-Howell is the Founding Principal of The Queens School for Leadership & Excellence. As the Founding Principal, Mrs. Bates-Howell designed the school to provide students with a nurturing environment that meets the needs of the diverse community. Mrs. Bates-Howell believes in providing students with a strong academic foundation to prepare them for college and future leadership careers.
Prior to creating the school, Mrs. Bates-Howell worked with a support team where she was the Director of Achievement/Deputy Network Leader. In her work supporting 29 schools throughout the City, Mrs. Bates-Howell led a team of network staff in curriculum design, classroom teaching, special education planning and teacher evaluations. Since 2000 Mrs. Bates-Howell has worked in multiple roles within New York public schools – a school social worker, dean, and middle school teacher. For eight years, Mrs. Bates-Howell taught English language arts, social studies, science and math to middle schools students. Mrs. Bates-Howell holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University, a Master’s degree in Education from Queens College, and a post-graduate diploma in Education Administration from the College of St. Rose. She excited to work collaboratively with the families and staff of the P.S. 349 community to have a successful school!
